Essential Duties and Responsibilities
As a Tour Guide in the University of Detroit Mercy Office of Admissions, you play a vital role in welcoming prospective students and their families. Your primary responsibility is to lead engaging and informative campus tours that reflect the campus experience, academic offerings, and student life at Detroit Mercy.
Primary Responsibilities Campus Tours
- Lead scheduled tours Monday–Friday during morning and/or afternoon shifts.
- Tours may also be scheduled for special groups, weekends, or after-hours, based on departmental needs.
- Highlight key campus facilities, academic areas, residence halls, and student life spaces.
- Share accurate and engaging information, including personal student experiences.
Campus Knowledge
- Maintain a strong understanding of campus layout, services, academic programs, and student organizations.
- Stay informed about updates related to majors, campus resources, and student support services.
Communication & Visitor Engagement
- Speak clearly and confidently with guests.
- Answer questions with professionalism and enthusiasm.
- Tailor your tours to meet the interests of each group and promote an inclusive atmosphere.
Admissions Event Support
- Help with room setup for events.
- Assist with greeting guests, preparing materials.
- Providing tours.
Professional Conduct
- Maintain a professional appearance and wear appropriate attire.
- Be punctual, prepared, and respectful at all times.
- Report any visitor concerns or tour-related issues to the Campus Visit Experience Coordinator.
- Participate in training opportunities to continue developing your tour guide.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
Tour guides must:
- Be able to speak in large groups & be comfortable speaking with strangers
- Have a good understanding of campus buildings, organizations, and activities
- Have a story to share with guests about the University of Detroit Mercy; be able to share your personal story with guests so that they see themselves attending the university
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs and walk for at least one hour.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Have been on campus for at least one semester.
- Is on campus most days of the week.
Anticipated Schedule:
- Monday through Friday, 10am-12:30pm or 2:30pm-5:00pm
