Hearing Instrument Specialist

A Hearing Instrument Specialist (HIS), also known as a hearing aid specialist, is a professional trained to test for and assess hearing loss, fit and program hearing aids, and provide ongoing support for hearing aid users. You will address hearing loss,  do consultations, recommend hearing aids and verify fitting to ensure satisfaction of devices, you will play a crucial role in helping individuals manage their hearing needs. 

 

Key responsibilities of a Hearing Instrument Specialist:

Hearing Testing:

Conducting basic hearing tests, such as air and bone conduction, and speech audiometry to assess hearing loss.

 

Hearing Aid Fitting and Programming:

Selecting and fitting appropriate hearing aids, customizing settings to individual needs, and ensuring proper functioning. 

 

Hearing Aid Maintenance and Repair:

Providing ongoing support, including cleaning, adjustments, and minor repairs. 

 

Patient Education:

Educating patients on how to use, maintain, and care for their hearing aids, as well as counseling them on communication strategies. 

 

Ear Mold Impressions:

Taking impressions for custom ear molds for hearing aids. 

 

Working with Audiologists:

Collaborating with audiologists, especially in more complex cases or when specialized testing is needed, submitting referrals when necessary

 

Education:

Qualified candidates must an associate's degree, and work toward licensing with the state.
