Summer Staff- Special Needs Counselor
COUNSELOR FOR CAMPERS WITH SPECIAL NEEDS
Job Description
Qualifications: 1. At least 18 years of age
2. Be at least 1 year from high school graduation
3. Commitment to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord
4. Minimum one year Camp Geneva staff experience preferred
5. Experience working with children with special needs
Primary Responsibilities:
1. Responsible for care and supervision of campers assigned to them and for the general welfare of all campers
2. Be equipped for and ready to respond to the unique needs of their campers
2. Be involved and involve their campers in camp activities and relationships as appropriate
3. Assist other campers and staff in gaining understanding regarding the unique needs of their campers as appropriate
4. Utilize the resources of co-workers, supervisors, and nursing staff
Additional Staff Responsibilities:
1. Attend all meetings and trainings as required of staff
2. Work to create a positive spiritual atmosphere throughout camp
3. Be aware of camper behavioral needs, encouraging positive involvement and addressing negative behaviors, reporting concerns to leadership
4. Report all equipment and facility needs and maintenance requests
5. Function as a full member of the summer staff, participating in activities, building relationships, carrying out the ministry of GENEVA throughout the summer
