CAMP NURSE
Job Description
Qualifications: 1. Committed to Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord
2. Meets all State of Michigan requirements to qualify as the Camp Health Officer
3. Hold current certification as professional rescuer/CPR
Primary Responsibilities:
The Nurse shall be responsible for the health and safety of each camper and staff member at Camp Geneva
- Review health records for all campers and summer staff prior to the session
- Screen all campers within 24 hours of their arrival. Screening must include: medication check-in, needs discussion, history review, physical state observation. This screening will be done in conjunction with the Waterfront or Challenge Coordinator. Each camper will have a "Health Silhouette Form" completed at the screening by the Nurse.
- Maintain locked drug cabinet supervision
- Maintain permanent medical record which includes: date, name, complaint, treatment, and treater's initials
- Ensure that medical coverage is available 24 hours per day while camp is in session.
- Be prepared to discuss problems with campers who come seeking help
- See that all necessary insurance claim forms, state reporting forms, and forms regarding workers' compensation are completed, with the approval of the Executive Director
- Make arrangements for local emergency services, hospital emergencies, and doctor availability, and notifying coordinator and program director when such services are needed.
- Keep a copy of standing orders, approved by the attending physician, in health clinic file at all times
- Keep an up-to-date supply list in health clinic file
- Notify the Program Director of any illnesses or injuries which demand treatment through another medical facility so that parents may be notified
Additional Responsibilities:
1. Attend all staff meetings: daily, weekly and during orientation
2. Work in areas of program in consultation with the Program Director
3. Report all equipment needs and damages to maintenance staff
4. Follow the daily routine and encourage campers to do so
5. Be aware of the spiritual atmosphere of camp and work at creating a positive spiritual atmosphere
6. Be able to lead a young person to Christ if the opportunity arises
7. Present a full evaluation of camp at the close of the camping session
