Position Title: Municipal Government Intern
Location: Village of Winneconne
Term: Spring 2026
Hours: Approximately 10 hours a week
Position Overview
Join the Village of Winneconne as a Municipal Government Intern and gain hands-on experience in local government. The Village of Winneconne is located 15 minutes west of Oshkosh with a population of 2,500. You will have the opportunity to assist the Clerk, Treasurer, Public Works Director, and Village Administrator, observing and assisting with their daily work. This internship is designed to help students explore public administration, finance, public works, and local governance, while developing professional skills that will serve in any public service or administrative career. Learning Objectives & Responsibilities
Governance and Administration Insight
Observe and assist in day-to-day functions of the clerk’s office: records, meetings, and agenda preparation.
Shadow the Treasurer in financial operations including budgeting and reporting.
Accompany the Public Works Director to observe infrastructure maintenance, project planning, and public works operations.
Sit in with the Village Administrator to observe operational leadership of multiple departments.
Professional Communication & Project Support
Aid in preparation of reports, presentations, or communications.
Assist with public outreach including helping with notices, website and/or social media.
Support multiple projects and task including but not limited to records maintenance, historical document organization, and digitization.
Skills & Personal Development
Use critical thinking to observe problems, suggest improvements, and create efficiencies.
Strengthen skills in understanding municipal operations – apply course knowledge to real world examples.

Qualifications
Currently enrolled in college (UW or technical college). Prefer a focus in public administration, political science, finance, environmental studies, communications, or related field.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to maintain confidentiality and integrity in handling municipal documents.
Reliability, punctuality, ability to manage multiple tasks.
Basic proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and willingness to learn new software.
