The State Fiscal Accountability Authority (SFAA) provides fiscal oversight for the State of South Carolina’s public sector by delivering quality, cost-effective insurance, procurement, and engineering services. The Position:
The Division of Procurement Services (the Division) is seeking a Procurement Intern or Interns to work with seasoned Procurement Managers in the areas of contract administration and sourcing activities related to high dollar value procurements. They will also participate in process improvement projects associated with supplier registration and onboarding. The Procurement Interns will assist with a wide range of procurement activities that touch on every facet of the agency’s core services and values. The goal of this program is to provide a positive work/training experience combined with challenging objectives, consistent with career goals in the fields of Procurement and Supply Chain Management. In addition, interns will have a unique opportunity to put classroom theory into practice while bolstering professional networks and real-life experience.
This two to three-month summer opportunity offers an hourly rate of $18.00 to $25.00 (depending on the experience of the selected candidate) with up to a 37.5 hour work week. The selected intern may also receive a $1,500 to $3,000 stipend to assist with travel and housing during the internship period if necessary. The internship period is anticipated to begin as early as May of 2026 and end in August of 2026. Start and end dates can be flexible based on intern availability and course schedules. Applicants should be prepared to work in an in-person environment at the time the internship is slated to begin.
Requirements for Consideration:
The successful candidate must exhibit strong written and oral communication skills while possessing the ability to organize and manage large projects, analyze and appropriately evaluate situations by using acquired knowledge and experience, and have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office software including but not limited to Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. The successful candidate should have the ability to consistently interact professionally at all associate levels and should be able to collaborate and contribute on projects as well as work independently as necessary. The successful candidate will also exhibit the ability to research information and make recommendations as well as synthesize information to document findings in a presentation format.
Intern Duties/Projects:
eProcurement System Implementation Project
One of the major projects our office will be implementing during the time of the internship is our eProcurement System.

Within this project the intern could:
- Assist in the cleansing and validation of various data and reports
- Attend planning sessions to capture and report implementation strategies
- Assist with process mapping and/or process analysis to recognize efficiencies.
Sourcing and Contracting Activities
This section outlines a dynamic range of ongoing activities designed to provide interns with comprehensive exposure to the procurement cycle. By aligning tasks with each intern’s unique skill set, we ensure a high-impact experience that adds measurable value to both the individual(s) and the organization.

- Read and review offers for responsiveness and responsibility
- Participate in evaluation panel meetings

Contract Administration activities
- Investigating contract disputes
- Ensuring customer satisfaction with contracts
- Reviewing contract change orders
- Reviewing contract task orders and statements of work to ensure contract compliance
- Querying end users and vendors to validate contract performance
Supplier Experience Lean Process Improvement Projects
As we advance our eProcurement system, we are focused on optimizing how we interact with our supplier community. We will achieve this through the following actions:
- Portal Optimization: Benchmarking and upgrading our supplier registration webpage to meet industry best practices.
- Engagement Strategy: Proposing new frameworks to enhance clarity and responsiveness in stakeholder communications.
- Process Improvement: Implementing a formal supplier feedback system to capture insights into the registration and procurement cycles, driving continuous service delivery improvements.
- Administrative Compliance: Redesigning admin fee reporting templates to improve usability while maintaining full compliance with the Procurement Code
Collaboration with Statewide Contracting Officers
The successful candidate will collaborate with, assist, and learn from senior statewide contracting officers as they establish and/or administer statewide contracts, assist customers, and review requests for alternate procurements for compliance with relevant procurement law. The successful candidate will also attend team/procurement planning meetings with supervisor or designee and will contribute to the team’s success by drafting and presenting reports as needed.
