Youth Engagement Specialist

Job Title: Youth Engagement Specialist
Organization: CompuRecycling Center – Medical Ascension Program
Location: Southeast Washington, DC (primary site: 2006 MLK Avenue SE, Washington, DC 20020)
Pay: $25/hour
Schedule: 10–12 hours per week
Program Duration: 9-week cycles from October - April 2026 (typically on Tuesdays and Thursdays) , 1 to 2 activities per week from May to June 2026 (days of the week vary), and 7 week summer cycle June 22 - August 7, 2026 (typically Monday - Friday)

About Medical Ascension

Medical Ascension is a healthcare career readiness and health literacy initiative operated by CompuRecycling Center. In DC, Medical Ascension engages youth through interactive sessions focused on healthcare careers, community health education, and leadership development. We are seeking a reliable, organized, and youth-friendly Youth Engagement Specialist to support program logistics and help create a welcoming and engaging environment for youth, families, and community partners.

Position Overview

The Youth Engagement Specialist plays an important role in supporting the weekly program sessions by assisting with food coordination, site setup, participant engagement, and session logistics. This role requires strong communication skills, reliability, and the ability to interact professionally with youth, families, and community members.

Key Responsibilities for October 2026 thru April 2026

Program Logistics & Food Coordination
• Obtain supervisor approval and place food orders at least 24 hours before each session
• Purchase food using personal payment method and submit reimbursement forms with itemized receipts (reimbursements typically processed within 72 hours)
• Pick up food, water, plates, napkins, utensils, and other materials from locations in DC or nearby MD/VA
• Transport food and supplies to the program site by 3:30 PM
• Use provided food warmers and wagon to transport items into the building
• Maintain a clean, organized food serving area during the session

Session Support
• Assist with program setup between 3:30 PM – 4:00 PM
• Warmly greet youth, parents/guardians, guests, and community partners
• Manage the sign-in table and ensure all participants sign in properly
• Assist attendees with digital surveys using iPads and QR codes
• Distribute printed materials, invitations, and handouts as needed

Closing & Breakdown
• Break down and clean the food area between 6:45 PM – 7:00 PM
• Assist with overall site breakdown between 7:00 PM – 7:30 PM
• Organize tables, chairs, supplies, and materials

Additional Support
• Assist the Program Coordinator, Community Engagement staff, and other team members as needed
• Support the Medical Ascension Awards Ceremony on Saturday, April 11 (9:00 AM – 3:00 PM)

Schedule & Hours for October 2026 - April 2026

Each session includes:

1 hour (remote): Order food and receive supervisor approval at least 24 hours before the session
5 hours on-site (2:30 PM – 7:30 PM): Food pickup, transportation, session support, and cleanup

If there are two sessions per week, the role averages 10–12 hours per week.

Awards Ceremony: 7 hours (8 AM – 3 PM)

Qualifications

• At least 1 year of experience working with youth and/or community members
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills
• Ability to interact professionally with youth, families, and partners
• Comfortable using iPads, QR codes, and digital survey tools
• Highly organized and dependable

Requirements

Reliable personal transportation is required for food and supply pickup
• Ability to lift up to 15 pounds for transporting supplies and assisting with setup/breakdown
• Ability to travel to program sites throughout Washington, DC

Important: Delivery services (Uber Eats, DoorDash, etc.) and tips are not reimbursable. Staff must pick up food and supplies directly.
