Position Type: Federal Work Study And Non Work Study

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

As a Tour Guide in the University of Detroit Mercy Office of Admissions, you play a vital role in welcoming prospective students and their families. Your primary responsibility is to lead engaging and informative campus tours that reflect the campus experience, academic offerings, and student life at Detroit Mercy. 

This posting is for Summer 2026 - if you are interested in Fall 2026, there will be a separate application posted in May.

Primary Responsibilities include.
 

Campus Tours:

  • Lead scheduled tours Monday–Friday during morning and/or afternoon shifts.
  • Tours may also be scheduled for special groups, weekends, or after-hours, based on departmental needs.
  • Highlight key campus facilities, academic areas, residence halls, and student life spaces.
  • Share accurate and engaging information, including personal student experiences.

Campus Knowledge:

  • Maintain a strong understanding of campus layout, services, academic programs, and student organizations.
  • Stay informed about updates related to majors, campus resources, and student support services.

Communication & Visitor Engagement:

  • Speak clearly and confidently with guests.
  • Answer questions with professionalism and enthusiasm.
  • Tailor your tours to meet the interests of each group and promote an inclusive atmosphere.

Admissions Event/Group Visit Support:

  • Help with room setup for events.
  • Assist with greeting guests, preparing materials.
  • Providing tours.

Professional Conduct:

  • Maintain a professional appearance and wear appropriate attire.
  • Be punctual, prepared, and respectful at all times.
  • Report any visitor concerns or tour-related issues to the Campus Visit Experience Coordinator.
  • Participate in training opportunities to continue developing your tour guide skills.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:
 

  • Be able to speak in large groups & comfortable talking with strangers
  • Have a good understanding of campus buildings
  • Have work-appropriate personal stories to share with guests visiting campus, so that they can see themselves attending the University
  • Can reliably commute to campus (if not living on campus for the Summer)
     

Preferred Qualifications: 
 

  • Currently attending Summer 2026 classes or enrolled for Fall 2026 classes at the University of Detroit Mercy. 
  • Have spent at least one semester on campus. 
  • Is on campus most days of the week. 
  • Federal work-study is preferred (limited non-Federal Work-Study positions)

Anticipated Schedule: 

  • Monday through Friday; any time between 9:00am and 4:00pm
