Student Ministry Pastor

Position Overview

This role is about more than leading a ministry for students in grades 6-12. It’s about building a culture of discipleship by equipping adult leaders to invest in the next generation and partnering with parents as they guide the spiritual formation of their students. It also means creating a space where students can show up as their full, authentic selves — where belonging isn’t dependent on fitting a mold, and where faith is explored through meaningful relationships, thoughtful teaching, and honest conversation.

Responsibilities

- Lead and oversee the student ministry for grades 6-12.

- Teach regularly in student gatherings, helping students engage Scripture in thoughtful and meaningful ways.

- Create environments where students can explore faith, ask honest questions, and grow in their relationship with Christ.

- Plan and oversee weekly student gatherings, small groups, and seasonal experiences that help students grow in faith and community.

- Recruit, train, and support a team of adult volunteer leaders who invest relationally in students.

- Encourage and equip parents as the primary spiritual influences in the lives of their students.

- Provide pastoral care and support for students and families when needed.

- Help students connect with the broader life of Westbrook through worship, service, and intergenerational relationships.

- Participate in the life of the church staff, including meetings, planning, and shared ministry initiatives.

- Working collaboratively with the Family Ministry team to align student ministry with the church’s overall discipleship strategy.

- Other duties appropriate for pastoral staff members.

A Person Who Thrives In This Role is Someone Who…

- Sees the importance of students in the broader life of the local church; including worship services, serving opportunities, and church-wide events.

- Believes in building a culture centered around authentic relationships, spiritual growth, and thoughtful engagement with faith rather than entertainment-driven programming.

- Prioritizes creating a safe and healthy ministry environment, including appropriate safety policies and practices.

- Has a Bible college degree or similar experience.

- Isn’t scared of difficult topics or conversations.

- Is able to work hard to build up the student ministry as a staple ministry of Westbrook Christian Church.
