POSITION DESCRIPTION
Position Title: Credit Union Staff Accountant
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
Position Reports To: President/CEO
POSITION PURPOSE
Manage all practices and activities in the Finance and Accounting functions to ensure compliance with State and Federal rules and regulations. Manage auditing, accounting, and recordkeeping activities of the Credit Union to ensure they meet generally accepted accounting practices (GAAP). Make recommendations relating to budget preparation, income forecasts, and operational changes as needed. Assist CEO with the overall strategic direction and vision of the credit union.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES
1. Manage the financial and accounting functions of the Credit Union to include: ALM, AP, AR, budgets, GL, financial analysis, financial reporting and recordkeeping, investments, payroll, taxes and reconciliation of credit union cash accounts.
2. Develop, implement, and evaluate policies and procedures for the Accounting/Finance function. Ensure that policies and procedures reflect current regulations and are communicated to and implemented by subordinates.
3. Complete and analyze monthly financial reports. Present monthly reports to the Board of Directors and management as required. Ensure all regulatory and governmental reporting requirements are met.
4. Monitor credit union dormant accounts. Send letters and generate reports to lead this function through the member representative team.
5. Identify areas for improvements, changes in procedures, new developments, or changes in services. Keep staff up to date on trends and general Credit Union information.
6. Perform all credit union back office duties as required.
7. Assist regulatory agency (NCUA) examiners and auditors. Prepare and provide reports as required.
8. Work with the CEO in identifying trends in the industry, instituting new programs or products, and evaluating products and services
9. Assist in preperation and implementation of the budget for the credit union that is consistent with the overall strategic plan.
10. Develop, apply and evaluate policies and procedures for the credit union.
11. Develop, implement, and maintain operational pocedures for the credit union.
12. Assists CEO with preparation of monthly Board Packet.
13. Assists CEO with year end reports as required by NCUA.
14. Uploads employee 401k retirement contributions report and helps CEO with proper entries into the plan.
15. Must learn most duties of the Member Serivce Representative including ACH and share draft processing.
16. Perform other duties, projects or tasks assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Certification: Equivalent to a college degree (Associates, BS or BA in a relevant field).
Required Knowledge: Thorough knowledge of financial and accounting practices and procedures.
Understanding of governmental regulations and reporting requirements.
Familiarity with related auditing and information services functions.
Understanding of Credit Union operations and information needs.
Experience Required:
Skills/Abilities: Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Knowledge of credit union services and philosophy
Ability to demonstrate good judgement, initiative and tact when dealing with co-workers and credit union members
Must be a critical thinker and problem solver
Ability to work under stress/deadlines
Professional appearance, dress, and attitude.
Working knowledge of related computer systems and applications.
Excellent analytical abilities.
Previous mortgage lending experience is helpful.
Must be able to become a notary.
Maintains confidentiality related to Credit Union operations and work-related information.
Deals with people and situations with a high level of skill, tact, and courtesy and manages communications and relationships between contacts.

Finger Dexterity: To individually, or as a group, flex and extend fingers for fine and precise manipulation of small items, or to activate a keyboard mouse. Handling or touching with the fingers, e.g., turning switches on/off, using a telephone push button or 10-key calculator.
Physical Strength: Sedentary work; sitting most of the time. Exerts up to 10 lbs. of force occasionally.
Pulling: Using upper body to exert force in order to draw, haul, or tug objects in a sustained motion.
Pushing: Using upper body to press against something with steady force in order to thrust forward, downward or outward.
