Intern – Communications
Ohio Department of Veterans Services (ODVS)
About the Role
This internship supports the Communications team by helping plan events, coordinate outreach across Ohio, and assist veterans and their families in connecting with services. You’ll work closely with leadership and play a hands-on role in major statewide programs and ceremonies.
What You’ll Do (Key Responsibilities)
Event & Program Coordination
- Help plan and run major events like the Ohio Veterans Hall of Fame ceremony
- Coordinate logistics (venues, materials, schedules, vendors)
- Track timelines, budgets, and event progress
- Identify ways to improve events and programs
Outreach & Engagement
- Support statewide outreach efforts to connect with veterans and families
- Assist with public events, community partnerships, and engagement activities
- Help coordinate with County Veterans Service Offices across all 88 counties
Communication Support
- Assist in creating and organizing communication materials (emails, flyers, reports)
- Support the Communications Director with public engagement efforts
- Help ensure consistent messaging across programs and events
Program & Agency Coordination
- Work with internal teams and external partners (state agencies, community groups)
- Support coordination of veteran-focused programs and services
- Assist with tracking program outcomes and reporting
Constituent Services
- Help respond to questions and connect veterans/families with resources
- Support efforts to improve access to services and information

Qualifications
- Currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate program (communications, public administration, marketing, or related field preferred)
- Strong communication skills (written and verbal)
- Organized and able to manage multiple tasks at once
- Problem-solving mindset and attention to detail
- Reliable transportation to/from the work location
