Research Assistant - ECECS [4155758]

Position Type: Federal Work Study Only.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

  • Software Engineering Intern to lead the integration of a critical new Appointment Management module into an existing software ecosystem. 
  • The student will be responsible for taking a standalone functionality and successfully bridging it into a production app and backend infrastructure. This includes:
  • Frontend Integration: Porting and refining React Native (Expo) UI components into our main mobile application. 
  • API Development: Implementing and testing Python-based API endpoints to handle scheduling logic and data flow.
  • Database Architecture: Setting up and optimizing database schemas (SQL/Document) to store and manage new appointment data. 
  • Ecosystem Connectivity: Integrating third-party APIs, specifically Google Calendar, to ensure seamless synchronization for patients and providers. 
  • Agentic Configuration: Configuring backend AI "agents" to automate scheduling workflows and patient reminders.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Technical Foundations: Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field.
  • Mobile Skills: Experience or strong interest in React Native (Expo).
  • Backend Interest: Familiarity with Python and building RESTful APIs.
  • Data Curiosity: Basic understanding of SQL or NoSQL databases.
  • Startup Mindset: Proactive, solution-oriented, and comfortable navigating the "imperfect information" of an early-stage company.
  • Mission Alignment: An interest in healthcare, AI systems, and using tech to help people live better lives.

Anticipated Schedule: 

  • Flexible, part-time - 20 hours per week.
