Behavioral Interventionist Technician

Position Summary

As a Behavioral Interventionist Technician, you will play a vital role in supporting children with intellectual and developmental disabilities by implementing behavioral interventions, teaching functional skills, and promoting overall quality of life. You will work closely with participants, families, and a multidisciplinary team to provide individualized support in home, school, clinic, and community settings.

This position requires compassion, patience, professionalism, and the ability to build positive relationships while creating a safe and supportive environment for the individuals we serve.

General Responsibilities

Behavioral Support

  • Implement individualized behavior plans and intervention strategies designed to reduce challenging behaviors and encourage positive behavioral change
  • Utilize evidence-based practices, including Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Positive Behavior Support (PBS), to reinforce appropriate behaviors and improve communication and daily living skills
  • Support participants in developing emotional regulation, coping strategies, and appropriate social interactions

Skill Development

  • Assist in implementing individualized programs to support social, cognitive, emotional, communication, and physical skill development
  • Utilize structured teaching methods, visual supports, adaptive techniques, and reinforcement strategies to promote independence and community integration
  • Encourage participation in age-appropriate and meaningful activities

Data Collection and Documentation

  • Accurately document behavioral observations, interventions, participant progress, and outcomes
  • Collect and analyze data to monitor progress toward goals and support data-driven decision-making
  • Maintain timely and organized records in accordance with agency policies and regulatory requirements

Collaboration and Communication

  • Collaborate with families, supervisors, therapists, educators, and other team members to ensure consistency in care and implementation of behavior plans
  • Maintain professional and open communication regarding participant progress, concerns, and recommendations
  • Participate in team meetings, trainings, and ongoing professional development opportunities

Crisis Intervention

  • Respond appropriately and safely to crisis situations, including aggressive or self-injurious behaviors, utilizing approved de-escalation and intervention techniques
  • Maintain participant and staff safety while following all organizational policies and procedures

Training and Education

  • Provide support and guidance to families and caregivers regarding behavior management techniques and intervention strategies
  • Promote understanding of developmental disabilities and behavioral support approaches
  • Reinforce consistency across environments to maximize participant success

Documentation and Reporting

  • Prepare clear, concise, and timely progress notes and reports
  • Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA, professional ethics, and organizational standards

Qualifications

  • Currently working toward a degree in a Health & Human Services field such as Social Work, Psychology, Special Education, Applied Behavior Analysis, or a related field preferred, along with 1,040 hours of experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities
    OR
  • Bachelor’s degree in one of the fields listed above with the need to obtain the required 1,040 hours of experience
  • Knowledge of behavior management principles, Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA), and Positive Behavior Support (PBS)
  • Familiarity with assessment tools and data collection methods used in behavior analysis
  • Ability to remain calm and professional in challenging situations and utilize crisis intervention techniques when necessary
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Empathy, patience, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to improving the lives of individuals with developmental disabilities
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical and professional standards
  • Clean criminal background check required
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation may be required depending on job duties and location
  • CPR/First Aid certification preferred
