Ambassador CHASS CLAE

Position Type: Federal Work Study Only

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

The CHASS Student Ambassador program is pivotal in connecting current and future Titans, fostering a welcoming and inclusive community within the College of Humanities, Arts & Social Sciences. Ambassadors serve as visible student leaders who represent the college at events, support prospective student recruitment, and mentor first-year students. They create a positive and engaging environment by embodying Detroit Mercy’s values of radical hospitality, excellence, and the Magis. Ambassadors actively participate in outreach, social media storytelling, peer mentorship, and event support, helping students discover opportunities within CHASS and strengthening the Titan community.

  • Represent CHASS at university-wide and college events, including Visit Days, Homecoming, SOAR, community activities.
  • Serve as a peer mentor to first-year CHASS students, offering guidance, encouragement, and support.
  • Assist with event logistics (set up, check-in, student engagement, wrap-up).
  • Create social media content (photos, videos, posts) for TikTok, Instagram, and Facebook to highlight CHASS programs, events, student experiences.
  • Participate in outreach efforts to prospective and accepted students (panels, Q&A, tours, Titan for a Day).
  • Support admissions and department recruitment through short presentations authentic storytelling.
  • Maintain professional conduct, reliability, and a spirit of radical hospitality when engaging with students, faculty, staff, alumni, visitors.
  • Attend weekly meetings during open hours.

 

Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current University of Detroit Mercy undergraduate student enrolled in a CHASS major or minor.
  • Minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0.
  • Active participation in at least one student club, organization, or campus activity.
  • Availability to attend CHASS and university events as scheduled.


Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Ability to represent CHASS and Detroit Mercy in a professional, enthusiastic manner.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Creativity in developing social media and outreach content.
  • Willingness to learn about CHASS programs and effectively share that knowledge with others.
  • Commitment to diversity, inclusion, and fostering belonging among students.


Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to move between event locations across campus.
  • Ability to assist with basic event setup (tables, handouts, promotional items).
  • Standing and walking for extended periods during campus tours or events.


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Strong interpersonal communication skills and enthusiasm for engaging with peers
  • Interest in leadership, mentorship, and community-building.
  • Experience in social media content creation (Instagram, TikTok, Facebook).
  • Prior experience in student leadership, campus tours, or peer mentoring.


Anticipated Schedule:

  • Weekly meetings during open hours - work up to 12 hours a week.
