Theatre Ticket Office Assistant Performing Arts

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Detroit Mercy Theatre Company (DMTC) is seeking part-time assistants for duties in the Black Box Theatre Ticket Office.
  • Theatre Assistants will assist with a variety of tasks, including answering phones, processing ticket orders, and organizing materials in the ticket office.
  • No previous experience necessary; training will be provided. The ideal candidate will enjoy working with people, be open to learning new skills, good at listening and following instructions, and excited about working in a creative and collaborative environment.

Primary responsibilities:

  • Work closely with the ticket office coordinator on a variety of administrative and customer service duties.
  • Interact with theatre patrons in a courteous and professional manner, including answering phone and providing accurate customer service.
  • Process ticket orders over the phone and in person.
  • Assist with maintenance of the ticketing system.
  • Administrative tasks such as labeling, collating, copying or filing.
  • Students who are interested in working additional hours or learning more skills may elect to work at technical rehearsals and/or performances.
  • Roles include ushering, front of house work, helping backstage on costume maintenance, or assisting actors with hair & makeup, running the lighting or sound board, or other technical duties.

Job Requirements:

  • Be an undergraduate student at the University of Detroit Mercy.
  • Must qualify for work study through the University of Detroit Mercy Financial Aid office.
  • Organized and detail-oriented. Able to approach tasks with care and precision.
  • Great communication and collaboration skills.
  • Able to follow instructions, ask questions, problem solve, and work professionally.
  • Can work well independently and in a team setting.
  • Willing to learn ticketing and organizational tools/software.
  • Previous experience in customer service is a plus but not required.
  • Available work study shifts are Tuesday and Thursday between 10am-3pm. Candidates must be available for at least 2 shift per week for at least 2 hours (4 hours total).
  • Student employees are asked to be available during show weekends on performance days/evenings.
  • This includes assisting with ushering and concessions sales, greeting and directing guest, and maintaining the concession stand while vending snacks and beverages.
  • Dates of shows are November 6-15, 2026; January 29- February 7, 2027; April 9-18, 2027.
  • Students do not need to be available for all performance dates and shifts.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • No previous experience necessary; training will be provided.
  • The ideal candidate will enjoy working with people, be open to learning new skills, good at listening and following instructions, and excited about working in a creative and collaborative environment.

Preferred Qualifications (if any):

  • Previous customer service experience is a plus.

  • May be asked to lift up to 10 pounds.

Anticipated Schedule:

  • Hours available: Tues, Wed, Thurs 10am-3pm. Min. 4 hours per week.
