Social Media Assistant

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • The School of Optometry is seeking a creative, enthusiastic, and highly motivated student to serve as a Student Digital Communications & Marketing Assistant.
  • The student assistant will help create engaging social media and website content highlighting our students, faculty, academic programs, clinical experiences, campus community, and the profession of optometry.
  • We are looking for a student who understands what makes digital content engaging and who can bring a current student's perspective to our communications and recruitment efforts.

Social Media & Digital Content

  • Assist with developing and maintaining engaging content for the School of Optometry's social media platforms.
  • Create social media posts, Stories, Reels, short-form videos, graphics, photographs, and other digital content.
  • Help maintain a social media content calendar and identify opportunities for timely and relevant posts.

Website Content & Storytelling

  • Assist with keeping the School of Optometry website current, engaging, and relevant in alignment with MarCom submission practices and guidelines.
  • Review website content from the perspective of prospective students and recommend opportunities for improvement.
  • Develop student profiles, testimonials, news stories, FAQs, program highlights, and other student-centered website content. Interview students, faculty, and staff for short features and stories.
  • Gather photographs, quotes, student stories, and other materials for use throughout the School's website.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current student in good academic and professional standing.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated creativity and willingness to generate new ideas.
  • Familiarity with social media platforms and current digital communication trends.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently and meet established deadlines.
  • Ability to represent the School of Optometry in a professional and positive manner.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (if any):

  • Experience with Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn, TikTok, or other social media platforms Canva, Office365 suite, or other graphic design tools

Preferred Qualifications (if any):

Anticipated Schedule:

  • Monday-Sunday 8am-8pm (Flexible; some availability may be required.)
