Research/Teaching Assistant ECECS

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • The Introduction to Microcontrollers Laboratory Teaching Assistant supports the instructor in conducting undergraduate microcontroller laboratory sessions.
  • Responsibilities include assisting students with programming, wiring, testing, and troubleshooting microcontroller-based systems.
  • Helping students interface microcontrollers with switches, LEDs, displays, sensors, motors, and other peripheral devices.
  • Supporting laboratory exercises involving digital and analog I/O, timers, interrupts, serial communication, and other embedded-system concepts; and assisting students with debugging hardware and software problems.
  • The Teaching Assistant may also assist with grading laboratory assignments and reports, preparing laboratory equipment and development boards, and maintaining a safe and organized laboratory environment.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of undergraduate coursework in microcontrollers, embedded systems, or a related area is required.
  • Candidates should have practical experience programming microcontrollers and constructing and troubleshooting basic microcontroller-based circuits.
  • Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (if any):
  • Knowledge of microcontroller architecture and fundamental embedded-system concepts, including digital and analog I/O, GPIO, timers, interrupts, PWM, ADC, and serial communication protocols such as UART, SPI, and I2C. Proficiency in C/C++ programming and familiarity with microcontroller development environments, debugging tools, and basic electronic laboratory equipment such as digital multimeters and oscilloscopes are expected.
  • Ability to read schematics and datasheets, troubleshoot hardware and software problems, explain programming and interfacing concepts clearly, assist students with systematic debugging, and work effectively with undergraduate students in a laboratory environment is required.

Anticipated Schedule:

  • 10 hours per week, including Fridays 2-5 pm
