Position Type: Federal Work Study or Non-Work Study 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

3 to 4 full-time, semester long Emerging Designer positions available in the Detroit Mercy School of Architecture and Community Development's Detroit Collaborative Design Center (DCDC).

The positions start May 6, 2024 and end August 9, 2024.

The positions are full-time (40 hours per week)

A few projects Emerging Designers will be working on include engagement and conceptual design with grassroots organizations participating in DCDC’s Grassroots Design Access initiative, an outdoor landscape design with Bridging Communities and an initiative funded by the Department of Energy to improve energy efficiency in nonprofit buildings.

Mission

The Detroit Collaborative Design Center (DCDC) is a multidisciplinary, nonprofit design center located in the University of Detroit Mercy’s School of Architecture and Community Development. DCDC exists to bring high-quality and community-engaged design to all neighborhoods in Detroit. We do this by engaging, educating and promoting equity in design processes and outcomes.

Every person has access to well designed, healthy spaces and neighborhoods and has an active role in the decision-making that impacts their community.

Services

We work with community partners citywide on a range of projects at different scales, prioritizing participation in the planning and design process with the belief that local expertise leads to the best ideas. Our services include architectural design, landscape design, urban design, neighborhood planning, infrastructure strategy, community engagement, capacity building, and small scale installation design.

Anticipated Schedule:

Either 40 hours per week or 15-20 hours per week
