Bike MS Development Intern
An internship with the National Multiple Sclerosis Society is a form of experiential learning that integrates knowledge and theory learned in the classroom with practical application and skills development in a professional setting.
The Bike MS Development Intern will work as part of a team to implement the operational plan with a goal of meeting or exceeding revenue and participation goals for Bike MS event in the South Texas Market (Bike MS: Ride to the River) and other responsibilities as assigned by the Intern Supervisor.
The Bike MS Development Intern will focus on the acquisition of teams, volunteers, sponsors, and community partners. They will support the planning, administrative duties, volunteer management and donor relations associated with Bike MS and other Bike MS related events as assigned in order to meet and exceed budget goals as well as supporting the organization’s vision to create a world free of MS.
This position will support the successful execution of a recruitment events, training rides, and committee meetings. Duties include recruiting and engaging participants, key volunteers, and supporting needs related to donor cultivation and recognition.
This is a hybrid paid internship available for Summer 2024.
What You Will Do:
Execute campaign strategies to retain, grow and recruit participants for assigned events (75%)
- Collaborate with the market staff to implement successful team fundraising and recruitment weeks to maximize these efforts.
- Assist with team cultivation and recognition activities.
- Outreach/Communication with participants through:
- Social Media outreach (Facebook, Instagram, etc.) – posting, sharing & creating content to help incentives participants to fundraise during fundraising weeks.
- Web updates – Will help make sure we keep event website updated for pre-event and event weekend details. (PPU, lodging, shuttles, etc.)
- Phone/Email – help make welcome/outreach calls to Rookie and lapsed riders. Also reaching out to past participants not registered to encourage to register as a rider or even see if they might be interested in volunteering event weekend.
- In-Person – make any in person visits as needed. Ex.- dropping off a “thank you gift” pre/post event, taking rider packets to participants, participating in social/tabling events. Plan & execute a Social and/or Tabling event – Can be anything from finding a health or volunteer fair to attend or maybe planning a Top Fundraiser or Team Captain social.
Support the Bike MS series through assistance of special projects and sponsorship (15%)
- Collect, organize, and analyze data
- Assist with managing trackers, timeline, and communication plans pre-event, event weekend, and post-event.
- Partner with Development at Event Production team to help secure in-kind donation.
- Help fulfill sponsorship deliverables associated with the partnership.
Administrative/Financial (10%)
- Manage department mailings.
- Assist with sponsor proposals as needed.
- Help provide correspondence to individuals, sponsors and teams as needed.
- Manage assigned projects to within budget guidelines as directed.
Learning Objectives

What You Will Bring:
- Currently pursuing a degree as a Junior or Senior in College or any year in graduate school
- Open to all majors with a preference for the following: Communications, Non-Profit Management, Marketing, Public Relations, or Event Management
- Ability to work 12 weeks, 15 hours/week.
- Demonstrated initiative and motivation.
- Ability to establish strong collaborative relations and work with others in a cooperative and effective manner.
- Oral and written communication skills.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and dependable vehicle.
- Availability to work occasional nights and weekends.
- Some physical labor and lifting of up to 25lbs assisted or unassisted. Reasonable accommodation will be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this role
- Access to reliable internet (required for remote or hybrid positions)
- Familiarity with Microsoft Office Suite or similar software for e-mail, document, and spreadsheet creation/management – specific training will be provided.

The hourly rate for internships is $15, except when noted differently above OR where local minimum wage exceeds that figure, in which case the hourly rate will be the higher of the two.
