Lab Support – CHP, STAR Center

Position Type: Federal Work Study Only

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

The Simulated Patient work-study position at the Simulation, Technology, and Research (STAR) Center involves supporting the simulation education program by assisting with the preparation and execution of simulation-based learning activities. This role is integral to providing healthcare students with acting as a patient portrayal of the role or acting that emulates real-world patient interactions. 

Tasks: 

  • Assist with the setup and breakdown of simulation labs, ensuring all materials and equipment are in place and functional for each session.
  • Support inventory management by tracking and organizing supplies essential for simulations and labs.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and organization of the lab environment, adhering to safety and infection control protocols.
  • Portray patients accurately during simulations to provide realistic scenarios for students, following specific case guidelines with guidance from faculty.
  • Collaborate with faculty and staff to facilitate smooth operation during simulation exercises.

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current enrollment in a UDM healthcare-related program or equivalent education.
  • Ability to commit to a flexible work schedule accommodating laboratory sessions and events.
  • Clear communication skills and ability to interact professionally with students and faculty.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Interpersonal skills to effectively portray various patient scenarios and interact with students.
  • Organizational skills to manage inventory and assist with logistical aspects of lab setup.
  • Attention to detail, ensuring all setups meet educational requirements and safety standards.
  • Ability to provide constructive feedback and contribute to a collaborative learning environment.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Acting and roleplaying.
  • Understanding of basic medical terminology and healthcare practices is preferred.

Anticipated Schedule: 

  • 5-10 hours Per Week - Will Vary During the Semester
