The selectee serves as the New Jersey Division's Technical Programs Team Leader, managing a professional staff comprised of the Division Safety SpecialistBridge Engineer, and Intelligent Transportation System Specialist. In this position, the incumbent will be responsible for promoting new and advanced technologies in New Jersey and advising the Division Office's staff; New Jersey Department of Transportation; other Federal, state, and local agencies; and industry representatives on technically complex (and sometimes challenging) topics. Additionally, the new employee will work in cooperation with the Division's EngineeringEnvironmentRight-of-Way, and Finance staff.

As a Lead Civil Engineer, you will:

  • Ensure that the organization's goals, mission, and values are communicated to the team and integrated into team strategies goals, work plans, and products/services.
  • Communicate assignments, issues, milestones, timeframes, and deadlines to the supervisor.
  • Coach the team in identifying problem solving methods and provide advice on engineering methodology, practices, and parameters of viable solutions, and review work to determine that the instructions for work priorities, methods, deadlines, and quality are met.
  • Lead the team in distributing and balancing the work among all employees and adjusting as needed; and ensure that each employee has an integral role in developing the final product by monitoring and reporting work progress.
  • Train or arrange for training of team members on team building methods and engineering techniques as well as on specific technical or administrative duties.

The ideal candidate for this position is a technically qualified candidate seeking leadership experience guiding a multidisciplinary team responsible for monitoring and evaluating various highway programs.

Additionally, the ideal candidate should have the skills and abilities to effectively represent the agency to Federal, State, and local officials, and the public.
