Ambassador, College of Engineering and Science
Position Type: Federal Work Study or Non-Work Study
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to the following:
- Meet with prospective CE&S students during regular campus visits, orientation activities and other initiatives for prospective and incoming students to the College.
- Assist with Office of Outreach/Pre-College programs with STEM activities during the fall/spring semesters (Research Symposium, STEM-X Day, etc.).
- Assist with follow-up phone calls, emails and other communication initiatives to prospective students, camp attendees, and other assigned target audiences for activities on or off campus. Visit K-12 schools who partner with college initiatives (may include participation in Robotics and or Engineering/Science related competitions hosted by Detroit Mercy or potential partners).
- Assist with showcasing CE&S at various STEM activities in the metro-Detroit community.
- Potentially serve as peer mentors for students who are a part of the CE&S dual enrollment or STEM engineering design/robotics competition programs.
- Assist Detroit Mercy faculty/staff with Teacher Training Boot Camp in engineering concepts.
Requirements
Minimum Qualifications:
- Must major or minor in STEM-related field.
- Strong interpersonal skills and enthusiasm for working with high school and college students, in addition to the desire and passion to work effectively with diverse student populations, is required.
- Need to be able to work independently.
- Experience working with K-12 youth is desired.
- Experience participating in STEM activities is desired (Robotics, Engineering Design, Science/Mathematics competition or programs. Activity can be in or out of school settings).
- Experience in leadership, managerial, customer service or related service activities is a positive.
- Experience coordinating or planning events is a positive.
