Forensic Social Worker 1 - Torrance State Hospital

DESCRIPTION OF WORK

In this position, you will be responsible for developing, implementing, and delivering a full range of social services, counseling, and case management to forensic patients with mental illness who have been referred through the criminal justice or correctional system for diagnosis, evaluation, and intensive treatment. The programs are designed to improve patients’ social functioning and support them in achieving better social and emotional adjustment. Your work will involve collaborating with forensic patients, their families, guardians, facility staff, and external agencies to plan, provide, and coordinate necessary social services. You will gather essential social, medical, financial, and commitment information to assess the social service needs of forensic patients, offer counseling services, and collaborate with the multidisciplinary team on patient care and treatment. You will also contribute to discharge planning for an assigned caseload of forensic patients. A key aspect of this position is ensuring the care, custody, and control of forensic patients with mental disabilities while they participate in social service programs.

Work Schedule and Additional Information:

  • Full-time employment, 37.5 hours per week
  • Work hours are 8:00 AM to 4:00 PM, Monday - Friday, with a 30-minute lunch.
  • Travel and overtime may be required as needed.
  • Salary: In some cases, the starting salary may be non-negotiable.

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE, TRAINING & ELIGIBILITY

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Experience and Training Requirements:

  • A bachelor's or master’s degree in social work or social welfare.
  • Applicants will be considered to have met the educational requirements once they are within 3 months of graduating with a qualifying degree.

 

Other Requirements:

  • You must be able to perform essential job functions.

 

Legal Requirements:

  • A conditional offer of employment will require a medical examination and drug screening.
  • This position falls under the provisions of the Older Adult Protective Services Act.
    • Under the Act, a conditional offer of employment will require submission and approval of satisfactory criminal history reports, including but not limited to, PA State Police and FBI clearance.
