Research Assistant - ECECS

Position Type: Federal Work Study And Non Work Study

Essential Duties and Responsibilities 

The research focuses on developing innovative and practical solutions to real-world challenges using modern data mining and machine learning systems. Students may be assigned to various sub-projects depending on their background and interests. 

Responsibilities include: 

  • Assisting in the design and implementation of data mining (DM) and machine/deep learning (ML/DL) models.
  • Preprocessing, exploring, and analyzing datasets.
  • Reviewing literature and applying relevant techniques.
  • Participating in weekly team meetings and contributing to documentation and reporting.
  • Supporting the evaluation and testing of model performance.
     

This opportunity is especially valuable for junior or senior undergraduate Computer Science students, as it may count toward co-op or internship credit, providing a practical and academically recognized way to gain hands-on research experience

Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in a Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Prior coursework or experience in data mining, machine learning OR deep learning.
  • Proficiency in programming and familiarity with tools and environments commonly used in data analysis, data mining, and machine/deep learning.
  • Strong analytical and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • GPA of 3.4 or higher.
  • Proficiency in Python and familiarity with data manipulation libraries such as Pandas or NumPy.
  • Hands-on experience with DM and ML frameworks.
  • Exposure to project-based learning or research in AI/ML.
  • Interest in applying DM and ML techniques to real-world or interdisciplinary problems.

Anticipated Schedule: 

  • Up to 35 hours per week.
